PROBLEM
Redesign a newspaper article for Pearl Jam that encapsulates the band’s style, as well as creates a unique identity that is replicable across multiple medias. There will be a CD and CD cover and an event poster that will be designed with the new identity applied, so it won’t just need to be different, it will also need to be versatile enough to be applied to several different mediums.
SOLUTION
Pearl Jam’s use of typography is important to their identity already. By using typography that has already been embraced by Pearl Jam, then distorting it until it is almost illegible, I created a unique identity that transfered to CD and poster size quite well. Because the typography was heavily influenced by their music style, it is easy to recognize as Pearl Jam, but still a different take on typography than they have used before.
